An Atlanta native, Phil attended The Westminster Schools and Furman University before receiving his law degree from Emory University where he clerked at the Court of Appeals for Justice George H. Carley. Phil has practiced law for 30+ years and has been lead counsel in more than 750 family law cases. He brings a wealth of practical experience as well as a deep understanding of the myriad issues that family law presents.

Phil maintains his family law practice and greatly respects the legal process but understands that where families are involved, there is often there is a better way. His practice philosophy has always been that a negotiated settlement saves not only the immense frustration, time, and expense of a trial but almost always results in a better outcome than litigation. It was this belief, supported by years of seeing tangible results, that inspired him to become a registered civil and domestic mediator.

In mediation, Phil’s approach is to explore options that the parties may not have considered to craft creative solutions to complex problems. His experience and understanding help him quickly uncover key issues and interests to find practical, forward-facing solutions for the benefit of the parties and their families.

Phil lives in Peachtree Corners with his wife, Erica. The couple is deeply engaged in community service with a focus on causes that support families and veterans. Erica is a certified parent coordinator who maintains an active PC practice as the founder of Atlanta Divorce and Parent, LLC. She is also an executive and professional coach who is frequently published and cited in national journals as a recognized expert. They have three adult children, three rescue dogs, and a rescue cockatiel. They are both avid readers and love playing golf and tennis.
